페어뱅크스에서 약 40분 거리에 위치한 Knotty Shop 안에 맛있는 아이스크림 가게가 있다. 알래스카 토산품을 구입할 수도 있다. North Pole 을 지나 아일슨 공군기지를 통과한 이후 ... 살차에 들어서면 ... Knotty Shop 입구가 보인다. 

North Pole 에 위치한 Santa Clause House 에서 7월 9일에 열리는 달리기/걷기 자선 행사를 안내한다. 류마티스 관절염 환자를 위한 모금 행사의 일환으로 달리기/걷기 대회가 아침 8:30부터 열린다. 그외에대 가족들과 함께 하는 행사가 다채롭게 마련된다.

매년 하지 (해가 1년 중 가장 긴 날) 어간에 열리는 백야 달리기 대회 ... 이날 페어뱅크스는 축제의 분위기이다. ㅎㅎ

원주민들이 연어를 잡아 오래 동안 저장해서 먹는 나름대로의 방법을 찾아냈다. 스모크 (훈제 요리) 해서 그늘에 말리는 것이었다. 지금도 기계에 넣어서 훈제하는 방식보다 전통식으로 훈제한 연어 요리가 인기가 높다. 이런 훈제 요리는 고급식당에서나 찾아 볼 수 있다.

30년 된 아이스 크림 가게

The first Hot Licks opened in February of 1986. Located in Fairbanks, just down the hill from the University of Alaska, Hot Licks quickly became a popular local attraction offering the finest from the four basic food groups: Soup, Bread, Ice Cream, and Coffee. The menu featured two made from scratch soups daily, fresh baked bread, cinnamon rolls, croissants, muffins, a full espresso bar, and, of course, a complete old fashioned soda fountain menu. All ice cream was made on the premises in a twenty batch freezer.

Eleven years later, in May of 1997, a major change took place. The owners decided to discontinue soups, sandwiches and baked goods. They built a 20’ by 20’ ice cream shop with walk up window service. Seating is outdoors in a park like setting. There are picnic tables, benches, and an adjacent 20’ by 20’ pavilion. Operation is seasonal from May through August.

알래스카 페어뱅크스 ... 도심 속에 화원 (정원)을 구경할 수 있어서 ... 종종 찾는 공간이다. 

UAF 대학교에서 관리하는 보타닉 가든에서는 종종 음악회 (야외 공연) 가 열린다. 아름다운 꽃들도 구경하고 가족들과 오후 즐거운 한 때를 보내고 있다.

Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitors Center

Since 1998 three separate organizations in Interior Alaska struggled with inadequate space that made it difficult to meet the needs of those they served. The Fairbanks Convention & Visitors Bureau (FCVB) and the Alaska Public Lands Information Center (APLIC) talked of sharing a new facility that would inspire residents and visitors to get out and explore Interior and Arctic Alaska. At the same time, Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) dreamed of having a cultural center to preserve Athabascan languages, carry-on traditional knowledge through Elder teachings, and instill confidence and pride in Alaska Native youth. It was Alaska’s Congressional delegation, led by Senator Ted Stevens, who suggested these three entities work together to plan and build a joint facility.

To some, it was an unlikely partnership. But leaders from each partner agency rolled up their sleeves and immersed themselves in the business of building, planning and raising funds for construction. Now that we’ve opened, facility operation and maintenance costs are shared. The vision of working together remains strong.

The sum of this partnership is truly greater than its individual parts. The synergy of working together has created a world class visitor center at a price none could afford on their own. Partner activities and programs complement each other in a way that allows each distinct organization to better fulfill its individual mission.

Many have worked to encourage urban and rural Alaska to put away differences of the past and find common ground—none more than the late Morris Thompson who was widely recognized as a bridge between cultures. The Center is committed to honoring his legacy by promoting improved appreciation and understanding between Alaska Native and non-Native communities. As Alaska Native business leader and member of the fundraising team Byron Mallott stated early in the project planning, “If we can get it right in the Morris Thompson Center, it can be an example to others of how we can work together for the benefit of all Alaskans.”

While visiting the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center you will experience the grandeur of Interior Alaska. Located on the banks of the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks, this extraordinary community centerpiece celebrates who we are and how we live. It educates residents and visitors about our natural and cultural history, and we hope it motivates you to go out and explore all that Fairbanks and the Interior has to offer.
