This park was named in 1967 to honor those who died in the 1964 Good Friday earthquake. The quake was measured at 8.4 and 8.6 on the Richter scale and lasted 4 minutes. In 1971 the borough decided to minimize development in this area due to the instability of the clay bluffs. It was recommended that trails run from Earthquake Park to Point Woronzof for public enjoyment. In 1997 a new interpretive display was created for Earthquake Park with information about the 1964 earthquake.

On March 27, 1964 at 5:36 p.m., the largest earthquake ever to strike North America shook southcentral Alaska, lasting more than four minutes. The epicenter of the 9.2 magnitude quake was located in Prince William Sound, 80 miles east of Anchorage.

1964년 5월 27일 (성금요일 - Good Friday) 오후 5:36 pn, 강도 9.2 (Richter 기준 8.4-8.6 - 지구상에 발생한 가장 큰 규모의 지진으로 기록) 규모의 엄청난 지진이 앵커리지에서 80 마일 떨어진 곳에서 발생하였다. Earhquake Park 은 그날 희생된 영혼을 기리기 위해서 붙여진 이름이다. 공원 안에는 당시 지진의 규모와 피해 정도 ... 이후 지형의 변화들을 자세히 설명해 놓았다.
